Whispers of Water and Stone – Treska and Matka, North Macedonia’s Natural Harmony

Autumn is the most magical season to walk the paths of Matka.

The air is cool and fragrant, the forests shimmer in gold and rust, and the sound of the Treska river echoes through the canyon like a timeless melody. Whether you’re cycling through the trails, capturing photos of the canyon walls, or simply pausing to breathe in the peace of the moment, this is where nature speaks softly, yet profoundly.

The GREENTOUR project has transformed the Matka area. It now welcomes visitors with improved hiking and cycling paths and eco-friendly rest areas. Once neglected spaces have been cleaned and restored, offering travelers a pristine environment where adventure and serenity meet.

The project connected Saraj and Lebane. These two municipalities are similar in their shared natural beauty and cultural heritage. Joint efforts built new eco-trails, recycling facilities, and digital tourist terminals. It helps visitors discover these attractions easily.

It’s wonderful to see the project ‘living on’ beyond its implementation phase.
